MOT time and the ABS light stays on
andysteele replied to andysteele's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
cool - where are the sensors? are they easy to spot? -
hmm thats sounds odd to me, mine sits vertical.. some times just to the left of vertical on the motorway (i guess due to good air flow)... probably need to get it checked out then, to be on the safe side
-
its been fine for the last 30k miles... bought it at 75k now close to 105k..... my problems with the ABS, other than that its been fine

dont know my water temp, but my oil is always higher.... water temp dial stays vertical when warmed up, goes to the right if stuck in traffic for a while... Oil runs up 100 in town and 106 on a motorway run... some time creeping higher. must say tho mine does appear to run hotter than most,

hmmm had a little development today, i have been getting a very infrequent vibratation accompanied by a rattle noise just after firing up, only happens 1 in 100+ starts. today after fueling up i pulled out of the petrol station and this happened again. I went for the brakes and the pedal was solid and vibrating. After a couple of seconds it stopped and returned to normal (ABS light wasnt on at this point). Its been fine since, done 35 miles to get to work! I have never felt ABS being used but since the pedal was bouncing i`m guessing even though the car was moving at 10mpg (ish) without the br -
o no... i have done my own servicing on the VR6 so dont take it to them... £300 quid for an ABS sensor sounds very steep too....Mines going to MJM's near the station for MOT in a few weeks, they say thwey are VW specialist so we`ll see.... hope it passes as my ABS light keep coming on, and at less than 90! i hate the labour charges you get from a dealer hourly rate is vast

CD's have never been great with me.... dont fill me with confidence and always have to order stuff... when I lived in Stoke I used Premier in Leek who were fantastic... got to know the parts people and they do a loyalty card.... But CD's are closest and can get the parts I need..... and yes, I do live in Cheltenham.... Warden Hill area, south of town... you?

Got the following from: http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_340.htm This suggests as long as the car has ABS it must be tested and that the light MUST come on at ignition and go out when running as the owners manual states. BUGGER Info: This ABS inspection applies to all systems fitted as 'standard', and to 'optional' systems fitted. When testing vehicles that have ABS fitted the road wheels should not be allowed to rotate clear of the standing surface with the ignition on as this can cause the ABS system to indicate a fault which may require specialist equipment to rectify Missing components Where -

when i start from cold my ABS light stays on... if i run it for a few mins then switch off and fire up again it usually stays off but can come on randomly a few miles down the road.... Will this get picked up at MOT? Any ideas what it can be?

i had Bosch's to start with and replaced them with NGK's from the dealer.... i think the Bosch are better, slightly better economy in mine.... anyone know the Bosch part code?
-
i havent got the invoice on me but i paid about £120 for mine... the bloke in the parts dept of the dealership must have felt sorry for me as he gave a little discount (thanks CD Brammal - Cheltenham) they must have recognised me as a regular i`m trying to fix a little mis-fire i have starting from cold in the damp.... it also happened a few weeks ago in the driving rain on the motorway.... started spluttering... done the plugs so trying the leads, hope this sorts it

i think its just a personal opinion thing... i bought my VR6 2 years ago, at the age of 22, straight from Uni. I could just afford to buy it and run it.... the choice was something cheaper Mk2 GTI etc and have cash to spend on it or a MK3 VR6.... and I`m really glad i got the VR6, it may be 100% standard but it goes better than anything else i can afford, gets me respect from other car buffs and it hasnt lost too much of its value... if i had got a £2k Mk2 and spend £2k on it, it still would be worth what the VR6 is now and i dont think it would be as much fun..... as for TVR performance, whe

really, thats good to know.... could be the reason why I`ve got a little splutter! I hope so since they cost so much!!!! They`re in a box in the motor at the mo, I`ll go check who made them on my lunch break! thanks... doing the 110k service next weekend

hello all.. just pop in to my local dealer to pick up a set of plug leads i ordered for my 94 VR6, non-distrubutor type. The leads are RED. kind of shocked me... the old (original) ones are black. Anyone else get these? The guy at the parts desk said he had only had to get 3 sets ever and all came red......

Oil Leak ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!
andysteele replied to VR6Andy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
same thing happen to mine a few months back, pissing oil all over the place.... just had to replace the two oil cooler seals and its all fine now, even runs a few degrees cooler! the only problem was in getting the parts from my local dealer, they had one of the two, but said there wasnt any of the other in the UK, had to wait over a week to get the other flown in!!!! but the cost was small... -
mine's still higher than most but better now I have replaced the oil cooler seals - top i have seen is 106, usual motorway run is 100, around town 90
-
REALLY. i have got the Mk3 Haynes manual and had a look over the weekend.... it appears i need the steering wheel off to replace it... but its an airbag wheel so dont i need the special tool so i dont blow my head off? mina - did you go to a dealer to get yours done?? or can any muppet do it.... i`m happy to if i can get my steering wheel off!

maybe just a shot in the dark but I used to get my VR service at a mates garage, he had one before me and had similar problems and said he changed the fuel filter, so whenever he did my servicing he always changed it. I moved away and have now started to do the servicing myself, I went to VW to get the parts for a service and they were shocked i had even asked for a fuel filter for a VR and didnt think they would have any. They say it aint a service part. Mine hasnt had one for 20k now and its starting to have similar problems so i`m going to change it and see if it helps.

my indicators have started playing up... when i indicate left i hear what is best described as a "gridding" style noise (its a rapid clicking). I think its coming from under the steering column - i guess thats the fuse box where the relay would be????? It doesn`t happen all the time, if i hold the indicator stork with some force in its position then all is well... so sounds like a dodgy connection, i have put some wd40 down the stork and this didnt help.... any ideas what it is

how much for the VAG leads? I have always heard people say to always get the VAG ones for the quality.....
-
yeah thats right, my `94 has a coil pack, its just the really early ones that have a dizzy. I`d assume if you have a dizzy and rotar arm it would be a cylindrical unit not a rectangular one. Coil pack does the same job just with the worry of moving parts And i get a some water marks around the cap of my expansion tank, these are just white flacky bits, so i think it pushes a little water out of the top when really hot. I guess if your coolant is red then that would explain it... if its coming from the pipes check for splits and make sure the jubilee clips are tight...
