steveyj 0
Hello all,25 miles in to a 160 mile journey (on the way home) my waterpump gave up the ghost . The bearing failed and my reservoir was left empty. The coolant temperature went up to 95/100 (I've never seen it go above 90 before) and the oil to 114 About a week ago the serpentine belt started to squeak - which really got on my nerves. I fitted a new tensioner thinking the idler pulley was to blame. After completing the job I started the car hoping the squeak to be a thing of the past when the sound was even worse. Unfortunately I didnt have time to do anything about it when I had to make the above journey I took the waterpump off this evening and the impeller is no more. There is nothing left! I managed to recover 1 piece but am concerned the remains are going to cause problems with the rest of the system. (The waterpump was the original vw plastic impeller type)[see related post]What is the best way to flush the system and recover the broken bits? Are there any components in the cooling system that could be damaged?(The factory unit where I'm working on the car doesnt have running water. I'm going to fill up loads of 2 litre coke bottles)Any help/advice greatly appreciated.Regards,SteveVW GOLF MKIII VR6 [obd II]VW GOLF MKI GLI
gav_113 0
i had the same thing m8...with the pump removed i blew compressed air down the header tank and most of the bits come out, then flushed it through with a hose pipe..
robsgt28rsgolf2 0
best thing to do is flush it with the hose pipe through all directions with all the hoses off! anything that this dont shift will be to heavy for the water to move around when the water pump is re-fitted! it'll give the system an exellent clean to in the process. i did this on mine 3k ago and have had no problems since.
