  1. Hello Mark, Did you make any progress on this - or did it not happen again? I tried to start my car this morning. Engine turned over - hit 1200 rpm - revs dropped straight away (as normal) but car stalled. Oil light flashed on/off. This happened on each startup attempt. Oil level ok Vagcom fault codes Control Module Part Number: 021 906 256 Component and/or Version: MOTRONIC M3.8.1 HS V02 Software Coding: 00000 Work Shop Code: WSC 01317 2 Faults Found: 00515 - Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40) 30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent 00268 - Solenoid
  2. Hello, Has anyone stripped and successfully rebuilt their mk3 rear brake calipers? The handbrake mechanism is seizing on mine. (later type caliper) Is it possible to remove the handbrake mechanism and restore? Has any one got any advice / experience Cheers, Steve
  3. Hello there, My vr6 is due for MOT in 3 weeks so I need to sort out the handbrake seizing issue I've been ignoring for months. Can MK4 rear calipers be fitted without modification to the mk3? Is the upgrade worthwhile? I understand they are aluminium and less prone to seizing/rust!? Has anyone on the list made the change? Cheers, Steve 1996 GOLF VR6 OBD II
  4. Have a look at the following links: http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=teves_20_fitted_to_volvo_850_and_v_w_%27s BBA Reman - Info The Volvo 850 shares the same ABS setup as the vr6 Quote: "These suffer from control unit breakdown resulting in pump out of tolerence or wheel-speed sensor fault codes. Common applications and part numerbers listed below, but we can repair all part numbers from all vehicle manufacturers." http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-850-ABS-Controller-VW_W0QQitemZ150128427599QQihZ005QQcategoryZ10432QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem BBA Reman - Ebay listing
  5. I had the same fault (rear right) around 2 years ago. Fitting a new abs sensor didnt resolve so I replaced the ABS pump and ECU. This sorted everything out until about 2 weeks ago. I'm now back at square one I am also experiencing overheating due to the handbrake mechanism not returning properly (Is the abs problem a result of the heat issues in that area?) I remember reading (back then) that the abs ecu is at fault and can be replaced/fixed. Does anyone know how to repair? Soldering was mentioned... I also seem to recall that the abs ecu was also used on some volvo models!? Steve
  6. Hi TG, Thanks for the reply. I think I better try and secure the pressure valve in place as best as possible for the time being (tape??). Unfiltered air is not good news. The sensor I'm referring to is upstream of the pressure valve. It plugs straight into the inlet tube. Steve
  7. Thanks for the response posts! Am I right in saying that this pressure valve is part of the crankcase ventillation system?? (Recirculating rocker cover fumes back into the inlet system). What does the inline sensor do? What does the ecu use this measurement for? Will running the car with this valve in two pieces cause any problems? At the moment the two parts are seperate and the fumes are venting in to the engine bay. I havent noticed any performance issues but the cabin is starting to smell a bit oily Steve
  8. Hello Si, Can you pm / list the thread details I've had a spare ecu for a while but thought I was at the mercy of vw to fit it for me. I've had a persistent coolant temp sender problem. Changed the sender but no fix. I think theres a problem with the ecu?? Cheers, Steve
  9. Hows the car running now? I hope all is well. Is it possible to reprogram the immobiliser in the ecu yourself with vag com? Or do VW have to do it? Cheers, Steve
  10. I've just done some work on my cooling system. Can you confirm how to remove an airlock from the system. Is the method mentioned ... how long did you run it with the cap off and heating on for? ... the standard procedure?? Thanks, Steve
  11. Hello, I need to replace part 16 on the following diagram (Etka Illustration 129-26) Does anyone know what this is and what function it performs? My etka cd doesnt have a part number and neither do the vw maindealers!! The parts guy thinks it may come with the air intake hose (12) at £103.53!! Does anyone have part 16 available? Cheers, Steve
  12. Hello all, 25 miles in to a 160 mile journey (on the way home) my waterpump gave up the ghost . The bearing failed and my reservoir was left empty. The coolant temperature went up to 95/100 (I've never seen it go above 90 before) and the oil to 114 About a week ago the serpentine belt started to squeak - which really got on my nerves. I fitted a new tensioner thinking the idler pulley was to blame. After completing the job I started the car hoping the squeak to be a thing of the past when the sound was even worse. Unfortunately I didnt have time to do anything about it when I had to make the
  13. Hello All, I experienced some serious steering wheel shaking on the way home from work last week. Turning corners produced a (very) load clicking noise Suspecting the outer cv joint we removed the rubber boot to have 2 ball bearing fall out!! The outer race half missing. What tool is required to remove the inner cv joint from the gearbox? I have searched the web and a triple square socket seems to be the way. (Also known as Internal serration, XZN bits) They are similar to Torx bits but with 12 points instead of 6 What size (8mm??) is required and where can I get it from in the UK? Cheers, St
  14. Hello All, I have just purchased a second ecu from ebay. Can someone forward advice on how to replace it for the original. I have had an intermittent fault code since I purchased the car relating to the blue coolant temp sensor. The sensor has been replaced and the wiring seems ok. I'm thinking the ecu is at fault!? I have VAG COM and understand that a recode is required. However I'm not sure if the car has an inbuilt immobiliser (and keycode transponder) or the third party alarm fitted is covering this feature (and the key is dumb). Can the original ecu be reinstalled as a fall back whatever
  15. Hello All, I have just pulled the following fault codes using VAG COM ============================================ Control Module Part Number: 021 906 256 Motronic M3.8.1 HS V02 Software Coding: 000 Work Shop Code: WSC 01317 2 Faults Found: 00522 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62) 27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent 00579 - Knock Sensor Regulator Cylinder 3 08-10 - Control Limit Surpassed - Intermittent ============================================ The first fault [00522] has been present for as long as I can remember.
