goonersteve 0
This left them reliant on their midfielders to score all their goals. The trouble with this is what happens when the midfielders are all tied up on defensive duties? I wouldn't say Lamps was tied up defensively....in fact, he has apparently had the most shots out of ANYONE (incl. strikers) in the whole competition.I reckon if we could somehow wangle the rules so that Lampard was allowed to wear blue and Gerrard allowed to wear red, then we'd storm it! :-p

I have no idea why his finishing was so poor in this tournament. At the end of the day, it's easy to spot a World Cup winning team - look at how France played against Brazil, or the way Italy played against Germany tonight. THOSE are World Cup winning teams. They have cohesiveness and that "cutting edge" that England sadly lacked.

Slim 0
What do Paraguay, Ecuador, Cameroon, Denmark and Belgium have in common? They're the only teams that England have beaten in the knockout stages of the World Cup since 1966.But never mind, as long as you've got a scapegoat you're alright. As soon as they come up against a half decent team in the knockout stage it's penalties, then home. Then comes the media witch hunt against the player, referee or manager they choose to blame for England basically falling apart in front of quality opposition. It's not a prblem with lack of skilled players. It's just a case of not enough self-belief coupled with too much pressure from the media.
