I've put my vr in for an MOT and the ABS light was on the garage have run a diagnostic on it(£40 just to plug a pc in but that's a different matter) and it is coming up saying "signal outside of tolerances" from my ABS pump they have checked the connections and they are in mint condition but they are not sure what it is as not an official vw garage but they think that the pump needs to be replaced at a cost of approx.£500. Can anyone shed any light on this or tell me somewhere to source a new/used pump at a minimum cost? cheers in advance

Id query the £40 as that is just stupid! I got charged £20 by my specialist and I thought that was a bit high considering its just plugging the tool in and reading the codes. But I know they have to pay for these tools (used to work for a company who sold diagnostics tools) and know they arent exactly cheap unless you get VAGCOM.

  • 3 weeks later...

Crikey! Thats the exact same fault I've got come up on my car: "ABS outside of tolerances" - coupled with the ABS light coming on.

I had the fault cleared and system re-set. Light came on once since then (thats 3 weeks of driving) and I found it tends to come on when the weather has been hot. But if you switch off, leave it for 20 secnds and re-start it goes out and stays out. If the car or is used for 'in town runs' light doesn't come on.

I had to pay £35 for the fault to be 'read' (different issue altogether I know) and cleaned the ABS contact in the engine bay etc. and no obvious signs of damage.

Brakes seem to work fine with the light on or off. And can anyone shed anymore light on what this fault actually means please?
