jb9999 0
Will a kebabed lambda probe cause this, and just generally cack running? Ta.
VR6Pete 1,455
I'd get it on a VAG-COM first and foremost, normally these type of problems can be caught.Pete
jb9999 0
Cheers Pete. Just trying to judge how much it's going to cost. Was reading a link from this site the other night and it recommended that the lambda should be changed if you blow your head gasket, as the anti-freeze and oil that your engine burns while the head gasket is fuck'd kills your lambda. Had a look at the bill for the new head gasket and no mention of it on the invoice. Come to think of it, the car has never seemed quite right since the gasket was done, just lost that little bit of response when you put your foot down even after I'd just had the head done. Could have been the beginning of the end for the lambda, where's kilokilla when you need him!!!! +o(

jb9999 0
Your right there mate.Taking it in on Tuesday. If I don't get any fault codes, the only other thing I can think of is the timing's out. Can this be checked electronicaly or does the timing chain cover have to come off? matth76 1
Take it to a good vr6 specialist (as opposed to main dealers!). Timing has to be checked physically unfortunately.. if you get it vag com'd this will throw up any sensor faults. A good vr6 specialist will check this for free. Try The Phirm (if you live in the south) or Stealth if you live in the midlands. A rolling road session will be benefial if vag com doesn't show up anything - this will show where it is pinking. To check the cam timing the inlet manifold and cam cover needs to come of - about a 3-4 hour job at the very most. Does your car have any modifications? Could be that it needs a remap. mk3anni 0
You can check for pinking on the road using vag-com matt, you dont have to have a RR.

jb9999 0
Cheers Matt. The car is standard, so shouldn't need a remap. Think its more likely to be a sensor than the timing as the pinking disappears when I disconnect the MAF.Was supposed to take it in on Tuesday for a vag com, but ended up getting hammered on Monday and couldn't face movement at all on Tuesday, so changed it to Saturday. Any idea what sensors control the fueling, does the lambda play a big part in controlling the fueling? Cheers.
