Russ_vr6 12
right i know this has been covered a hundred times but iv searched and cant really find the answer i lookin for basically my car has a k+n and AMD chip at the mo and its running 197 bhp and 193lbs ft of torquenow i looking for a little more power,if possible a little more mid range, now iv been told that an exhaust doesnt do a huge mount and AMD told me not to bother changing the exhaust manifold as in some cases wont give a power increase, but did recommend a inlet manifold change to a vsr oneare these maifolds readily available and is this the best step to go?also how much are these?also AMD also said that uprated cams only seem to give power at the top end of the revs?its on avo coilovers and brakes are uprated so no probs with the chassis sidecheers in advance :)

matth76 1
An inlet manifold (the most common make is called the shrick inlet manifold) are pretty expensive at around the £1000 at the very very lowest in a group buy. You may get one cheaper second hand but they are very rare second hand (I know as I was looking for ages). A shrick inlet mani is very good at increasing torque. Some people on here have gained over 50 lb/ft torque! BHP increase is minimal ...about 5-10bhp. However a shrick and 268 cams really go well together.I have just had some eurospec 268 cams fitted which Stealth told me are copies of Shricks so give the same linear power increase. Shrick and eurospec cams have improved my power throughout the rev range... it is true some cams only give power high up the rev range but depends which make/brand and cam profile you go for. Stealth recommended shrick and eurospec as they give good power in the midrange as well as high up and I can't notice any loss in torque or power below 2000 revs at all. Cat 264 cams are supposed to be very good too and somewhat cheaper too. I recommend getting cams mate. Getting my car rolling roaded and remapped at stealth in a couple of weeks so will find out what increase they have given. (My car was rolling roaded before the cams were fitted and it had 192bhp and 193lb/ft torque). By the way it's worth knowing a remap is normally vital if you have cams and/or a shrick fitted as they heavily increase the air flow into the combustion chamber which (if left unchecked) will lead to pinking. A remap will be £300 at stealth...or they may do you a deal if you have other work done at the same time. I got my eurospec cams second hand from Jake on this forum for £230. They would cost £400 brand new.I have a 6 branch manifold and it is true it hasn't increased my BHP when I last had it rolling roaded... but it (and a BMC air filter) gave a 10 lb/ft increase in torque. Good luck with your mods mate.
