just after a bit of advice

on the way home today there was a bit of a bang steam up the windscreen and now coolant on the carpet, so i think the heater matrix has blown. Does this sound like the problem or could it be something else, also if i put all the controls on to cold will the car hold coolant so i can drive to get to work and get the parts at the weekend.

oh and finally is it gonna be a pig to change

thanks guys

john

if it is ur matrix gone u are better off joining the two pipes up that go to the matrix in the engine bay. this way it wont leak into the car again!!! and yes i think it is a bitch of a job. think dash out etc. i have a receipt when i bought my car for this job £416 all in!!!!

anyway i hope it isnt ur matrix. good luck.

I'm afraid it can't be anything else :-( I've had mine replaced with some copper piping for nearly a year. Works fine except for the no heating. Luckily I don't have to use the VR6 if it's too cold outside.

TG

P.s. when it was first patched up the join was near the actual matrix inlets which caused a restriction in one of the hoses leading to cooling problems.

Sorry to hear that mate. The matrix went in my old mk2 16v it cost about £30 for the matrix it's self and £160 to get it fitted. I tend to do work on my cars myself but couldn't be bothered to take the whole dash out to get to it. I suspect it may cost more in a mk3 though. At least it's gone just as the. weathers getting a bit warmer.

where abouts are you?

i had mine done in my old vr and my mechanic was half the price of any other garage, think the bill was £250 ish, but yes dash out and budget for around 6 hours labour.

but as its summer i would just get a garage to join the 2 pipes (unless you have jubilee clips on them and can do it yourself)

everytime you fill up the coolant and go round a corner all your coolant will spill out.
