justad 0
Well i was driving around, everything is working great. Then on my way to the hihgway, i change to 3rd and floored it, got to 5000rpm and it jumped out of 3rd.Now i only have 1st, 2nd and 5th if im lucky..No noice or anything when this happend, the gear shifter is hard as hell. wont even go into 4th. Just stops like the clutch is out.3rd gear isnt there anymore.. feels like it anyhow.Cant get it in reverse, the shifter just stops like in 4th.Gets in 1st with som muscle but it seems like 1gear is where reverse should be...? %-6 And 2nd works with som muscle..It is the hole tranny gone or maybe just the thing on top of the tranny? (the thing with the wires attached to it, dont know the name in english)The car is an 96 Golf 2.9 Syncro
Zonda_ 0
Similar thing happened on our MK2 a few years back. It needed a new 'box I'm afraid.
mk3anni 0
Seademon might be able to advise, he likes tranny's, but probaby not the kind your talking about.
mattverth 0
Good opportunity for a rebuild with shorter final drive, tdi 5th gear and a peloquin/quaife lsd. Sounds shafted.
justad 0
Hmm..But the 1,2 and sometimes 5th works..? I dont understand squat of this
badboyV6 4
could be the linkage is knackered mate - get that checked first...
justad 0
how can i check if thats destroyed?
kempj1 0
One way is to take it to a main stealer and they put some kind of template over the linkage so they can see where it must be adjusted. Before I bought my car 1st gear was not selectable, so I got the dealer to fix it - he took it to a main dealer and they did the job f.o.cI don't think you will be so lucky, but it's worth a shot - very quick job... justad 0
Where with the dealer to day..Its something inside so the tranny has to come off and be rebuild..Bah..Is it more work on a syncro then a regular vr6? To take the tranny of that is..
kempj1 0
BoooooNot good news. Don't know about syncro's mate. Does anyone have any suggestions what might be wise to replace while the gearbox is off? I think a syncro with a lightened flywheel would probably have an *awesome* launch... Seademon 0
Whilst you have the box off you might want to think about changing the chains and the clutch if either are going to need to be done in the near future as the box has to come off to both of those - save some money on labour etc
justad 0
Yes the clutch will be changed and chains checked. Dont think they are any problem yet, but the clutch will def be new..
