Petesvw 0
In oo is your normal service indicator mate, when it says in o1 or in o2, you need a service! Tried the ignition switch? Do you have an immobiliser fitted?
regs 0
hi pete i dont think it is the ignition switch as the dash lights up- when i turn the key thanks for the in00 service thing i have got a lazerline immobiliser fitted do you think that could be the problem
Petesvw 0
Could be mate, you had it on VAG.com?
spanky 0
i've got a laserline immobiliser on mine and if you stop the engine for more than 60 secs you have to touch the immobiliser key against the the immobiliser port to start up again. sounds like you may have a dodgy connection somewhere along the line. silverline 0
try the starter, i had the same problem on a peugeot gti and that turned out to be a bad connector on the starter, sorted that and it was fine
kempj1 0
I've had exactly the same problem on mine since I got it. Got a VW specialist to look at it and they replaced the starter motor, saying it's a servicable replacement => free from VW [fitting was chargeable ]This turned out to make no difference at all. Starts first time in the morning but after a log run or especially when the engine gets warm (has happend twice just by leaving it parked in blazing hot sunshine) the starter seems to be uninterested.I have a theory though. It's as if the battery is at too high a voltage - maybe as a result of too high underboonet temps / overcharging. The fix is to turn the ignition on, turn the heater fan on full, turn the headlights & fogs on, turn the rear screen demist on, just try to drain the battery hard for at least a minute - probably a couple of mins. Then try and turn it over. Sometimes I have to hold the ignition key in 'start' position for over 10 seconds, but it has always done the trick. It really did my head in when I first got the car, but this works. For a proper fix I should try replacing the car battery. I'm convinced it's to do with the starter not trusting the high voltage supplied by the over-charged / hot battery. Now I just leave the lights on / fan blowing while I'm filling up and it usually isn't much trouble to get it going.I'd be interested in hearing if this fix does the trick for yours too. Good luck!
