matth76 1
HiNeeding some new tyres soon. Which out of the above tyres should I get... which have the best grip?I'm assuming the ones with the better grip may not last as long... but is there a huge difference between the two types of tyre?My tyre size is 205/50/15 which is a bit of an unusual size. Does anyone know if Goodyear F1's come in this size or Continental Sport 2 's? I have searched their websites but cannot find my tyre size which is odd. Thanks for any help.CheersMatt
matth76 1
Anyone tried either of these? I've heard Goodyear are very good with grip but don't last long at all.. is this true?
Slim 0
6 and half a dozen, you'll be happy with either.
Earwig 89
I have had Goodyear Eagle F1's on my car for a long time. :-)Best tyre I ever had on the car !I have had F1's on the rear for about 2 years now even after they had a year on the front so I don't think they wear out very quickly.I now have Toyo Proxes on all 4 corners and don't think they are quite as grippy as the F1's.If you got the money I would Highly recommend the F1's :-)
kempj1 0
matth76 - I think you're going to like to hear this. I am running 15" wheels too - the standard ones. When I got the car it had 205/50r15 rubber. Now I am running 195/50r15 Eagle F1 GSD3's from blackcircles.com - I got them for just over £200 fitted, balanced & tracked. The 195 width are an unusual size and unusually cheap (at least they were at Christmas). The F1's are awesome tyres by the way - cut through puddles, preductable in the wet and fantastic in the dry. I have my pressures set to 40psi front and 33 rear and the steering has sharpened up nicely.Oh and if you're bothered about running 10mm thinner tyres, don't worry. The only think you need to think about are your wheel rims, and the F1 GSD3's have rim protection so you're sorted ;-)
matth76 1
Thanks James... and all the other replies. Do the F1's come in "205"/50/15 width too?
kempj1 0
They do, but you'll find the 195 width are quite a bit cheaper, plus they don't look as 'fat' as 205's. I'm not the only one that thinks 205 tyres look a bit wide on the standard 15" rims...I reckon the 195's will effectively be a little bit stiffer walled on these wheels, plus they will be less likely to aquaplane. Then again, they will wear down 5% more quickly (becasue there's 5% less rubber involved), but it's your choice. They are cracking tyres whatever width or pressure you decide upon. matth76 1
Got car booked in to have two new front tyres - Goodyear Eagle F1's... going for the 195 width as I think my handling will be improved with the stiffer tyre wall...as it feels very slightly mushy occasionally with the 205's. Plus I couldn't see the F1's in the 205 size anywhere. However I think the 195 should make the cornering a bit better. For £52(inc balancing fitting etc) cracking value per tyre. Just have to wait for my rears to wear out (will be a long time as they have loads of tread) then I can have F1's all round!
gernsteine 0
Conti SCII's are more progressive (better) in the wet imho. F1 GSD's are slightly grippier in the dry. Both last about the same.
