Deep front splitter/spoiler for Golf VR6 - how much and where can I get one?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have a late model (1997) mark 3 Golf VR6 and therefore only have the small front splitter/spoiler (which is pretty feeble and even on the basic model golf). Please can anyone tell me where I can get a deep front splitter/spoiler that was on the earlier Golf VR6's and GTI's? (It is the same front splitter that is on VR6Pete's car in his signature.) If anyone else has one fitted please can I see some photos of what it looks like at different angles?

How much are they (I believe they come in two parts)? I'm looking for a genuine VW part. Is the parts dept. in VW the best place to purchase it?

Bearing in mind I'm a complete beginner %-6 when it comes to car DIY - how easy would it be for me to first remove my current standard front splitter and then fit the new bigger, deep front splitter? Where are the clips/joins on the front bumper, or are there any bolts I need to unscrew? Are there any guides any where online?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Matt

hi, these are really easy to fit - i wanted a genuine one from the stealers also but they quoted me 90 pounds for it, i just went for ebay and got one for 28 quid, euro car parts do it for about the same price also. some cars have the original screwed in but its no sweat to replace - remove the screws and pull it out from its clips and replace done!

hope this helps

Thanks for your help. Are there any diagrams online anywhere to show where abouts the clips are that attach the splitter to the bottom of the front bumper? I'm assuming all the clips will be behind the front bumper? How many clips are there? In my experience I have always broken plastic when I try and use a bit of 'force' to detach something! Does the original splitter also come away in two pieces?

i didn't have any clips when i changed my old one, each side of the splitter has around 10 slots that clip into the bottom of the bumper, just tease them out i found it easier to work from the center then work towards the arch. you will find one half of the splitter tucks into the other, you can be pretty firm with them.

the vw one (from a dealership) is made from softer plastic which won't crack if hit a speed bump

I think the Vento ones that some people buy off ebay are the ones that cause you to have a gap in the middle - all you need to ask for at VW is a splitter for an N/96 Golf VR6. Might cost a bit more from VW but it'll be worth it for the quality, apparently they do take some stick and wont crack or break.

Thanks guys. Felch, I may be wrong but the two splitters in each of the links look the same. Are they different? However the one I am after is actually the one on your car Felch... is that a VW one? It looks the same as VR6pete's (club chairman) splitter which looks v nice. Pete, what spliter do you have on your green vr? I'm looking to get my car lowered 35mm on a gmax kit. How far off the ground will the bottom of the deep front splitter be from touching the ground approximately?

Cheers for your help.
