timpletoes 0 Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 Hiya need some help I just got back from picking up my cousins VR with him ,the guy he got it from told us his local garage suspect a head gasket problem (hence the cheap price)i have a full vr for spares so decided to drive back to manchester from lincoln 160 miles no problems digital temp went to 108-116 normal gauge sat at 82 ish no loss of water and no mayo on the cap also no traces of water on the dip stick,the car is a late 95 ODB2 my donor car is a 1994 ODB1 if it is the gasket what will i need to change for the ODB1 to fit both cars are complete so i should have all the bits Thanks..........Lee Link to post Share on other sites

kilokilla 0 Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 if head gasket does need changing it would be better to just do that however to change the engine just swap over all the bits that look different and use all the ob2 items but while you are doing that you also want to check the top timing chain tensioner is not warn because the earlier spec tensioners are not as good as the later 1s as i said though id advise just sorting the gasket myself as you still have a good engine you can sell then. timpletoes 0 Posted January 23, 2006 Author Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 Well the guy we got it from said the sump had a small oil leak and that there was condensation on near the head gasket!i mean i thought 170 mile with no stops or refilling of water/oil was good for a suspect gasket problem we checked the levels and they was not much of a noticeble difference ...Cheers for the replies Link to post Share on other sites
