pauldonn 0 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Share Posted May 2, 2004 Hi, Has any one had problems changing their spark plugs?Had my VR serviced yesterday (not VW) they informed me that they could not change 1 plug due to the thread comming out.Checked it out today and there is an insert which comes out with the plug which I can't remove.Is this a standard steel instert or has someone cross threaded the plug in the past and had this fitted? speedo 0 Posted May 2, 2004 Report Share Posted May 2, 2004 HI matey... it sounds as if someone has x threaded the plug and a helicoil has been fitted. The helicoil is actually stronger than the original alloy thread. I think you are going to have to renew the thread, as you will probably damage it. Helicoil kits are available at most factor`s, but you may have to take the head off to carry out the repair. x) an if your not confident, take it to your local engineering shop . :| Link to post Share on other sites
