bazz780 0
as far as i am aware, the biggest sign of head gasket is white smoke from exhaust, losing water/oil.condensation on oil cap is quite normal and even worse on mk4 golfs, however..... if the dipstick has murky sludge at the end of it then this could mean headgasket as the dipstick takes the sample of the oil from where its counts most. jayvwvr6 0
bazz mate,i cant find any trace of white stuff any where else including the dip stick, this is the second winter ive owned the car for and cant say i noticed it last winter? as for the white smoke im not getting continous smoke while driving only on start up,but dont all car exhausts smoke this time of year as the exhaust fumes hit the cold air? 28v6r 0
Nah! You're safe mate... If its only trace then your OK, its more than likey just dampness in the cap, or the seal on the cap is not what it used to be !sad .. nothing to worry about, or if you want to just keep an eye on your levels for a while for peace of mind !shy . The Audi 5 pots and Jetta/ Golf /Passat 1.6/1.8 carbs were all notorious for this.. nothing to worry about ...
kilokilla 0
ive found if you bypass the top breather hose or if there is a blockage in top breather hose it can cause this problem where just a slight white residue in top of cap generally when car is used for lots of short journeys.
