shail 0
I do my own oil changes and find the whole process a messy awkward job. Does any one on here use an oil extractor like on here? http://www.mailspeedmarine.com/ProductDetails/mcs/productID/104984Extracts the oil via the dipstick tube.
mightyvr6 0
I dont see why anyone would need that. You just take the sump plug out and the old oil flows out.
antera309 3
Getting under there on a lowered car is a pain though, involving jacking up both sides, inserting axle stands etc. You can just about reach the oil filter housing without jacking the car up, but the sump plug is too far back....I think one of those extractors would be handy. Makes disposal of the old oil easier too.
TVR6 0
I can't see that it would extract 'all' of the oil. Draining ensure that the crud has a better chance of draining out also. The extraction method may leave residue and old oil behind?
shail 0
I always find it a pain as the sump nut is on the back of the sump + I always get a shed load of oil all over the place. This thing is quick and very clean, plus its easier to dispose as it collects it.As for the leaving sludge at the bottom of the sump - ive been told that it doesn't do that. I know that Merc & BMW dealers use this method, infact i think that new mercs dont have a sump plug at all. Plus i change oil / filter every 6k.I just wanted advice as on some cars the pipe cannot get to the bottom of the sump, so if anyone has used one i'd be glad to know how succesfull you were. TVR6 0
Shail, that's kind of what I meant... in a round about way I wouldn;t be confident that you got all of it but then I've never heard of this method. I was however thinking of something similar to suck up overfills which can potentially damage the CAT.
antera309 3
All the "crud" should be in the oil filter, not the sump!!
