silverline 0
CHAINS!!! if they havent already been done.possible head rebuild, if its been serviced regularly that shouldnt be so necessary but things like followers will need doing as they will be tired. the bottom end is generally very good on the VR's.but yeah chains. the earlier timing chain system isnt really man enough for the job, which vw beefed up from 95 onwards i think, mines a 94 L reg and i ve just replaced both chains, guide rails and tensioners. 1 of the guide rails had broken causing the chain to slap and thats at 90k miles. antera309 3
Timing chains & chain runners for sure.Clutch (unless it's recently been done)Valve guides, oil seals & followers maybe.Water pump maybe. That's about it really, unless there are specific problems elsewhere. Is it using much oil?
Guest azz
hey, thanks for the replys. very helpfull. its not using alot of oil, average rearlly, is it common for water hoses to gho, as ive replaced a few ov them, also a secondry water pump. by replacing all these bits, will i see a difference in the car. silverline 0
water hoses can deteriate, split and then leak. if you replace leaking hoses then you will notice the difference in water consumption. im not too sure what the secondary water pump does tbh
pete8tch 0
mine was rebuilt at 124,000 by dubsport theyre in the north west and have a good rep. but are pricey.may be worth trying to find a decent second hand motor but u need a history or ideally hear it run maybe from a damaged car
