matth76 1
HiI have three problems... First one:The other day I was in a long traffic jam on the M1.. basically I was stop starting for nearly an hour. Anyway that night I got home at the end of the journey and my clutch pedal was making an audiable creaking noise... audiable from outside the car too each time I pressed the pedal (even with the engine off). However the next morning the noise had gone! Then a day or so later I had to do a lot more of stop starting in yet more traffic and the same creaking noise returned each time I pressed the clutch pedal. The actual gear changes are fine... it's just the clutch pedal itself. Again the noise disappeared the next day after it had time to rest. I'm not too worried about it but was wondering what caused it and is this normal? Is there a cable or something that needs tightening? Or is it very simple for me to fix on the pedal itself? I also have a strange electric window problem on the driver side... for some reason to get my driver window to move (either up or down) I often have to move the passenger window all the way up or down to get the button to work...then the driver window works fine... until I leave it for a minute and if I want to move it again it won't move... I have to move the passenger window up or down then I gain control over it to make it move... as if to give the driver side window power to move. Is a new motor or similar required? Are these expensive? My final problem is also electric.. when I first turn on my stereo or change from the radio to CD or CD to radio, or if I simply move to another CD in the autochanger, my stereo keeps turning itself off and on for about 1-2 minutes before it settles. If I decide to change CD or go from radio to CD or vice versa the same problem happens and it keeps cutting out before eventually playing normally. Has anyone else had a similar problem. Is it earthing incorrectly or are loose wires the cause? I can't see anything obvious at the back of the radio unit. Thanks for any help.
Nerih 0
ive been told its not the cable, its the clutch mechanism inside the car, but ive done 20k and nothing's happened, so i ignore it.no idea about the other two.
antera309 3
Do a search for "Electric Windows" - problems with these have been well covered on this forum.
badboyV6 4
ive been told its not the cable' date=' its the clutch mechanism inside the car, but ive done 20k and nothing's happened, so i ignore it.no idea about the other two.[/quote']1. There is no clutch cable on a VR6, its a hydraulic slave cylinder... and it deffo sounds like that is at fault- i had the same issue on my first VR and was told the same thing by a VW specialist... Its not something to worry about straight away but get it done as soon as possible - as most things i suppose.... :-)2. Does the motor sound like its doing anything??? It could be the motor is on its way out. Id replce the motor and regulator- get one from a breakers yard as new they are rather expensive. 3. Do you have a spare stereo you could try? It could be something faulty like a dry joint in the stereo... Its a long shot but if you got a spare stereo best to troubleshoot it.....

matth76 1
Thanks for your replies. The electric window is totally silent when I try to press the button to make it move. And sounds normal when it does move. Seems very odd. Any ideas? My gf has a new polo stereo in her car which we could try but will it fit my golf with the wires at the back?Looks like I'll be needing a new clutch slave cylinder. Are these expensive for a garage to supply and fix?
OTP 0
For a possibility with the window check the cable running between the door and the body inside the big rubber hose. In both of my MK3 GTi and VR6 one or two of the cables were fractured causing faults. The two cables are the heavier gauge ones, a brown one and yellow/red one I think, and look to me like they were made a bit too short at the factory putting excess stress on them. This fractured cable fault caused all sorts of weird things to happen in my GTi, like the driver’s window up button shutting the sunroof instead of shutting the window. On the VR6 the driver’s window simply lowered on the button and then refused to go back up until the cables were fixed, and also stopped my total closure from working on the alarm for any of the windows or sunroof. VR6Pete 1,455
I think mine cost 18 quid from GSF. Not sure about labour as it's still in me wardrobe!
