jonnyedinburgh 0
It's most likely an OBD 2 connector. This is a 16 pin socket connector. According to the Bentley manual, take out your ash tray, to the side of the ash tray is a plastic 'door' which slides out revealing the socket behind. It could be that your socket is elsewhere but I'm not sure. should be easy to find, probably on the dash board behind a plastic cover, makes it easy to hook up to a laptop. Note that if you don't have a laptop you can plug in a standard PC as long as you have a serial cable extension. You can't extend USB cables unfortunatley, laptop is pretty much essential with usb unless you can find a mega long usb OBD lead.
qgoose 0
Just installed vag-com myself this weekend. I can recommend alpha bid as well. My cable was cheap and appears to work well. Helped me diagnose an electrical gremlin. If you don't have a laptop then it is possible to simply install the software on your desktop and carry it all down to your garage if you know you have a problem and want to fix it. I can vouch for the fact that its not something you'd want to do every day but if you have a problem then it's worth the hassle. There are a couple of similar programs I have found that work on some of the windows mobile phones. I am trying to get one of these working at the moment. I'll post a review of this when I get it working.Si (V)W
