VR6_Absy 0
My lower flywheel cover has a sorry excuse for a rubber seal on it, most of it has perished away. Is this just a dust/dirt seal ? Can a new one be purchased from VW or is it the whole cover ?CheersGary
Nerih 0
is it the one next to the sump?
VRmonster 1
this isnt really needed, its just to stop dirt and grime from entering the clutch/flywheel housing, but if you nip the bolts up enough it shouldnt matter anyway.i asked at vw if they do it but they said theyve never heard of it. i think you have to buy the whole metal cover with the seal attatched. VR6_Absy 0
Cheers lads, yes it is the cover near the sump.I went VW tonite and they couldn't even find it on computer. I'll make the best of wot i've got with a bit of silicone. When i got home Sunday night there was oil all over that area, i think its come from Rocker cover gasket which was shot. I've give it a good going over, checked everything and renewed anything that locked dodgy.Be taking it for a spin 2mrw so fingers crossedCheers
VRmonster 1
well just so you know there is no oil whatsoever inside that area but can leak very easily down from the rocker to the back of the gearbox. also a little piece of sticky foam from a door seal would be a better option to the silicone as the area should really be breathable to let the clutch get cool air to it. Ultimatetune 0
yeah dont completely seal that area
VR6_Absy 0
I've actually used sticky backed door draft excluder.Oil is everywhere underneath still dripping out. Can't see any leaks now with new seals / gaskets from VW (no messing) seem to have done the trick but will be keeping a very close eye on it.
