Definitive WHAT CHARGER thread!?

I need to start planning what one to buy..

I been on Vortex mainly, and they seem all have the V1's which they say are older, but make a louder noise..lol

What is the best charger on the market, i hear soo many different oppinions so duno which one to plant my money in. I obviously want the one which offers the biggest power hike, but the louder noise would be a benefit..lol

I wont want to run the standard PSI, so would want a charger where I can change to a smaller pulley.. 8/9 psi is something I'd like to stay with. Although I am running 3.0 forged pistsons so my block is quite healthy!

Vortech chargers are all fairly similar. I would be biased towards a v1 (or v2) compared with a v9 because:

it's capable of producing more boost with a larger pulley than the v9. (in other words it can flow more air at lower speeds due to it's larger impeller) therefore more power

the v1 is louder because of it's straight cut gears. If you've got a charger you might as well let people know!

You can use the dual idler pulley invented by C2 which eliminates belt slip.

It's cheaper to rebuild than the v9 if it ever needed reconditioning.

Other than these reasons I'd be happy with any vortech as they are very reliable well engineered chargers.

Z-eng is ok but the boost is limited. They're only a small company too and there isn't any customer support. Vortech is the way to go. I don't think anyone has made a cogged belt/pulley kit for the vr6 but it isn't really necessary esp. with the dual idler pulley which increases belt wrap around the pulley and prevents slippage. A good reason to buy a v1 or v2.

gearbox, as many forged internals as you can afford, head spacer to reduce compression ratio, and i'd buy water injection for fun...(also think of buying a black diamond clutch too lol)

i only say this after talking to pete, doing this ENSURES you will be boosting for years and years to come (and thashing it wont break it).

you get close to 300bhp from the c2 stage1....i'd recommend it, only because its just under the gearbox destruction threshold :).

and since i'm now charged, i can say its WORTH IT, BUY BUY BUY!

Uprated gearbox is on the list anyway, already destroyed one a few weeks ago (I'm blaming defective parts though) and the replacement I got from a breakers is utter crap. Pricey things though :(

I can see this costing a fortune in the end if I do it properly, more than the car's actually worth....
