30mm Lowering springs...good or bad?

Recommended Posts

I own a Golf VR6. I am thinking of lowering my car but not spending a lot of money on coilovers as I'm on a budget. I am thinking of a decent quality set of 30mm lowering springs. Will 30mm lowering springs make the ride much worse or improve the handling? Also will it look noticably lower with just 30mm? I was thinking about Eibach, Koni or H&R or a similar good quality make. Please can anyone recommend any other good makes (or makes to avoid!!) and how has your car been since adding the lowering springs?

Hi mate,

My car is lowered 35 all round on koni adjustables. It looks much better from the front now its lowered, handling is also much better sticks to the road a lot more and the front end is a easier to control around corners. It handles 10 times better than standard VR's, my mates VR is standard and when i race him round the twistys leave him standing!

Matt

you get what you pay for, i went for a budget kit last time ( apex ) and it didnt last the pace at all, 29k and the whole thing was ready for the bin :( im currently running bilstein sprints and eibach springs ( 35 to 55mm drop(?), sits quite low and the handling is tight but not as bangy as the last over the bumps, if your not going for coilovers id recommend this set up, the springs cost 125 and the shocks i cant remember ,around 300 from eurocarparts

Thanks for your replies. Seems as though the general consensus is don't get lowering springs on their own. How much would a set of eiback or koni coilovers cost (or any other good quality makes) and how many hours labour would I be looking at getting a garage to fit them? Is there any decent garage in the south east including around london that will supply and fit them for a reasonable cost?
