My Heads About to Explode.

Recommended Posts

as most of you know im putting the vrt in the cab, but due to space restrictions on my driveway, and the 3 week deadline for e38, at the beginning of the month i put the car into a vw specialist and asked em to do the running gear swap (only the 2.0l engine as the VR is in my garage.)

so they had the cars for aprox 1 1/2 weeks, and done nothing, oh wait, they drained my coolant. and then got it stuck on a hydraulic lift. so they sort that and tell me they cant have it done in time, all this in 3 weeks and they tell me today, 1 week before e38. so tonight i have been ripping my hair out with the car on axle stands dropping the whole of the underside of the cab. and thinking heavily about the

thats bloody poor from a garage, i'd want my money back! hope u get it all sorted for next weekend dude! if i didnt have so much work to do on mine, and and off work with a dodgy knee, i'd offer to lend a few turns of a spanner and a couple of bashes with a hammer!

more than a couple with the hammer getting that engine out. we wer in that much of a rush weve just dropped the lot all in one piece. i took my fks off then just took the front off whole, bumper, grille lights, rad, rad mounts the lot. only 6 bolts, lol. then we just dropped all the sub fram bolts, cut the brake flexies, and let the steering column seperate itself with the weight of the engine, lol. had to angle grind the exhaust off as expected.

they kinda compensated me, as they had ordered most of the gear i wanted fitting, new cv boots, wishbones, strut top mounts and bearings, so they gave me 15% discount. i was like well thanks for saving me all of

By all means demand compensation from the garage if they promised you a completion date that they didn't deliver, but to a certain degree, it goes with the territory.

Big mechanical jobs (especially conversions) are notorious for taking longer than expected and it doesn't matter who's doing them. All it takes is one siezed bolt, broken tool, unexpected part failure or wiring problem to put you days behind schedule.

All in all, it's better not to rush these things. The quality of the final product will be proportional to the time and care taken putting it together.

Remember that the show cars we read about in the magazines often take YEARS to reach that standard, even the ones built by the trade.

If you don't make it to E38, don't let it get you down. Stick with it. Plans to supercharge my cab have been scrapped and Matt's is unlikely to make more than 250BHP, so you WILL have the UK's most powerful Mk3 Cab when it's all done.

Mate, sorry to hear about it. I hate it when things go wrong like that. All I can say is, try your best to get it ready for e38 and it'll b worth it in the end.

Looking forward to seeing it mate.

i didnt have a problem with the job taking longer than quoted, but its the fact that they let the car sit there for 11 days and done nothing to it, without telling me, then one day they decided they didnt want to do it. if they had told me 5 days in i could have the car running by now, so it just pi$$ed me off that they were so lazy and couldnt be arsed to call me.

im happy now though, the front end is swapped, and the rear axle and wiring loom tomorrow, then its onto the engine install, gear mechanism and pedal box. i love bank holidays, apart from not being able to get parts, lol. it WILL be done for e38, if not i will let someone take the project off me as i will top myself, he he.
