matth76 1
HiI've just bought a standard 1997 (P-reg) Golf VR6. It's done 70k miles. As standard I believe it has around 174bhp. Please can anyone tell me what modifications are available for my engine, what kind of power gains for each and approx costs for a good company to supply and fit? I understand fitting a performance exhaust and air filter won't make a big difference to power as the standard one is quite good already. Although I was thinking about fitting a cat-back magnex exhaust mainly to make my car sound better and the current standard one is getting rusty. Is magnex a good make to go for? I'm not keen on getting a superchip as I have heard many bad stories of the cars not being reliable anymore. Will a bigger throttle body make a difference to power? Can anyone recommend any makes and approx costs to fit plus power gains?Where in the UK are the companies Stealth and AMD located? I'm in the south in Sussex.Does the VR6 have any weak spots? Thanks for any information.Matt
VR6Rich 3
IF you have the money I would go for a superprint exhaust as they are good build quality and sound good too. Not over the top just a nice burrble. Or a Miltek system is also supposed to be very good as well. Most people go for either a BMC CDA or a RamAir induction kit. As to which one is better it depends on whether you run a cold air feed, looks, noise and cost. You wont get a bigger throttle body for yours as yours should be a later OBD2 spec car, which already has the bigger throttle body and different management.Stealth is based in warwickshire and AMD is in Bicester IIRC.Depends what you mean by weak spots? The chain tensioners are known to cause problems (do a search on here for info).
Ultimatetune 0
cant speak for any weak spots on the cars but the guys and girls here will help you. But i would suggest you dont spend to much money on mods like cams and exhaust etc etc as they will gain you very little extra performance for the large outlay on your na car. Just my 2pence worth. simey 0
The VR6 is the most expensive engine to modify but the results and sound are awesome
clarkie 1
I got a magnex cat -back on mine with a dtm twin outlet and it sounds spot on , not 2 load (as its the engine i want 2 hear not the zorst) stainless steel so no rust probs so yeh i would recomend it. also bigger throttle body does make a difference mine has been bored out 20% and has been gas flowed. also you said about chips, i would go to stealth and get a chip and remap as i no people who have been there and there were very impressed.
