8" or 9"?

well i'm thinking of saving up for some 3-piece Schmidt modern lines and i'm not sure if i should go for 8" or 9". I know the 9" will look best but will it compromise the handling or steering lock much? and how low should be ok for the suspension and these wheels bearing in mind there are loads of speed bumps near me?

I was thinking that a 30mm drop would be fine, but would that need me to modify the arches with such wide wheels?

30mm is usually fine thats what i got and i have no clearance issues with my 17's

Keep it at 8". Still think 9" is OTT on most of the VW's.

yeah agree 8 is a good width, 9 is gonna mean really stretched rubber etc, you will have clearance problems and it will eat tyres on 9`s but they look great on mk1`s imo but 8 is less hassle on a mk3 mate.

Cool, thanks for the info peeps i'm thinking 16" so from what i've gathered here i'll go for 16" dia. and 8" wide. Someone posed a similar question on e38 recently and people said to go for 9" but that would need arch work etc. I want minimum hassle so 8s seem the best comprimise

I was gonna get 9*16 borbets but got told that arch work was a deffo....but 8s would be fine. So i'm going 7.5 or 8*16 when i get mine
