cliveyp 0
I've had a few problems arise recently that i haven't noticed cos i've not driven the car far enough. The main problem is idling. If i hold the car on a low constant throttle (about 1500rpm) for a few seconds then let off, the revs drop to almost stalling before perking up and sort of ticking over OK (its still a bit lumpy). If you look at the end of the TB where the actual cable runs, do the same again with holding the revs, and watch the silver part in the centre (assuming this runs through to the butterfly) you can watch it return too far then move forward again to compensate for the low tickover. Thing is, this has now raised itself as quite regular stalling when driving in traffic and putting your foot on the clutch. Its getting pretty annoying now!!I'm ordering some new leads, as i know these aren't well (time for some Magnecors), and the plugs were done not too long ago. Anything else that could cause this??Another little problem that i want to check into also is the serpentine belt tensioner. I've noticed a few more noises recently that i thought was the chains. Whilst looking into the idle problem today i noticed the tensioner almost looks loose when running. Not as far as mounting to the head is concerned, this is just the tensioner pulley to mount if you catch my drift. Its rattling too......... I never noticed this happening before so i assume its pretty much knackered. Anyone give me any ideas??TIA
dubloke 4
initial prognosis on an obd2 car would be the throttle potentiometer for the idle hunting/abnormal tickover. a fault code check will highlight that if it is the case. if plugs/leads are not at peak performance this will be worsened and put more strain on the coilpack as a result! never had to sort anything with regard to the belt tensioner but i imagine they have intternal bearings and yours is worn? maybe you would have to replace the whole tensioner as i doubt you can just replace the bearing! hope this may be of some help, but not having an obd2 myself someone else may be more specific regarding the probs! cliveyp 0
Just as an aid to the stalling problem, i'm going to try flushing the MAF out with some carb cleaner...wondering if the old green filter was over oiled causing some build up on the wires....With the tensioner, i'm told by Paul Horrocks that he can do an exchange for me to save me pissing about changing the bearing in mine. I just need to get hold of him to see what he's gonna charge me for it.
