VR6 Turbo - which one?

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this has been covered many times. I have just purchased 'DJiceman's mk2 turbo project and I believe the turbo has failed. From the information he has given me, my understanding is that it is a chinese turbo.

I have seen that the Garrett GT35R turbo's are popular, however I'm unsure of what specs of turbine housing and compressor housing I need as there are multiple options. Ideally I'd like someone if possible to tell me what specific turbo to buy, (specs and model)

Are there any cheaper alternatives available that still yield similar build quality to that of the Garrett? I've seen the Precision 6176 which is more what i'd like to spend if possible. There are a range of choice when it comes to the specification though. " Exhaust housing inlet, Exhaust housing A/R, Exhaust housing Outlet and compressor housing" This is what i'm struggling with.

Apologies once again, I've been trying to get my head into the research but I'm still relatively new to this.

Many thanks, Drew.

T3 0.82AR - Precision are far more expensive than a 35 if you get the dbb versions. Cheaper one I always suggest a Kinugawa or Mamba although this will only save you a few hundred. Holset is also another cheap alternative.

Perfect thankyou.

Would you have a link to any of those please?

I have been eyeing up this one.

Are you aware of import duty etc, times the cost of item plus postage by 1.26 to get an accurate cost to your door if you get ht by HMRC, they're not ball bearing either although some are - rough estimate UK Ebay:

If it's budget, these do well on the JDM circuit, Mamba was Kinugawa's partner apparently.... went south, but same manufacturer's I think.

These will have quicker spool than an 0.82ar, nice GT30 sized compromise journal bearing if you ask me for a 400-450hp set up;

Holset's are diesel-esque, bullet proof, lot's of variations to pinch from cheap trucks but with massive turbine sections usually, may need swapping, vd to show big 52 at bottom. These guy's do hybrid's for people like yourself that don';t want to splash out a grand plus;
