Drivers Airbag Removal

Recommended Posts

Intriguing, I've always trusted the Bentley manual for this sort of thing, and that says you should disconnect. I'd be a bit wary plugging it back in with the battery connected as if some how a spark set it off, that would bloody hurt!!

I've never disconnected the battery neither has the VW specialist place I go to but then again it doesnt hurt either!

Yeah i bet it doesn't hurt when it goes off accidently while your handling it! :@

When i took my steering wheel off i disconnected the battery and waited for 15mins to be safe and i had no problems. Remember the airbag is a small explosive device so mess with it at your own risk!

Also by disconnecting the battery there is less chance of you getting a airbag warning light upon refitting! ;)

the airbag warning light will come on no matter if you disconnect the battery, cross your legs or play hide and seek if replacing with an aftermarket wheel. unless you use a suitable resistor in place of the airbag one or you take the bulb out, which will be an mot failure next time round! good luck!
