Headgasket and piston rings

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

Im going to be changing the headgasket on my 94 vr6 but getting the parts gathered before hand.

Going to do a compression test to see if its worth doing the piston rings at the same time and if so i guess VW will be the only supplier for these if they still sell them?

Victor reinz is the way to go for the headgasket as ive read, if it came as kit with the head bolts other seals and gaskets that would be useful but cant seem to find one anywhere!

Also with valve stem seals are the ones which come with the headgasket set ok or do you need to buy these seperately from VW to ensure they are the correct ones?

Update - After calling GSF , Eurocarparts , volkspares, AVS car parts and others I tried stealth racing and they are sorting me out on monday with a Victor Reinz headgasket set for roughly £80 ! pretty much half the price of Vw.

I tried TPS for piston rings and they come in at £204 so undecided yet, will talk to guys at stealth racing next week and see.

Bought the Headgasket set ( headgasket, rocker cover gasket and valve stem seals ) plus 1 set of headbolts , all in £145 from Stealth Racing ( either Victor Reinz or Elring ). I asked about piston rings and roughly £20 + VAT per cylinder, so depends how im feeling !
