Seademon 0
Hi guys - my car seems to be a little tail happy/twitchy at high speeds - is this a charctertistic of all VR6's or just mine? I was thinking that as its lowered and has the Eibach arb's etc that the chassis is very stiff making it handle like this. With passengers in the back its much better but I have had a few very hairy moments in it on high speed bends
Eat this 2
what ya complainin for mine used to be fantastic til i got these crap yoko tyres know i get a choice between understeer or even more understeer its doin my head in
silverline 0
i ve got toyo proxo's on the front of my golf and they're really good in the wet as well as the dry! got yoko's on the back and they're crap in the wet!
acf8181 0
its not called tail happy...its called responsive loli've never felt my vr6 has been very oversteery tbh, its fwd after all so by definition will understeer unless you're doing something silly like lifting or braking mid corner, which is asking for trouble in any car. tyres really are the most critical thing when it comes to handling on a car, if you decent fronts with cheapo rears it will be prone to a more oversteery balance. Eat this 2
i had toyos which i think r fantastic especially as mine were knackered at the back which was awesome on a wet roundabout really controllable
vdubgirl 3
You haven't got the dreaded powerflex polybushes on it have you ?! :@ Not sure they would make the tail end twitchy at speed but they definatly make it a little more sensive on corners I HATE the things with evengiance (sory spelling)! IMO I dont feel safe in my VR at speeds of over 120 (Private roads of course )but that might just nbe the way my suspensions has been set up
Eat this 2
il have em claire

badboyV6 4
If the cars really stiff then the limit will always let it self be known much more quickly than a softer setup - which lets go progressively. But then at least with it nice and stiff you can shift weight easily, and its not rolling everywhere. Cant fault a it of lift off oversteer hehe ;-)
acf8181 0
yeah, just noticed it appears to be on 17"s...they're usually not very progressive at all.
Seademon 0
Cheers for all of the replies! I think it does have poly bushes - they are red so probably not original VW items. Rubber wise I've got uni's at the front & Pirellis on the rear - its ok & good fun to drive but when Im acellerating through long corners/bends at around at 120Mph + things do start to get a bit hairy - it feels very light but with a bit of weight in the back it feels a lot better so I thinks just down to a stiff set up & I suppose as ACF & Warren says its just more responsive with what I have fitted. With the brake setup I have aswell I can sometimes feel the back getting a bit loose but again this is only when I stamp on them at high speed & I suppose all the weight gets shifted to the front of the car :0)
Eat this 2
ul get less weight transfer with a stiff setup andmixing tyres isnt the best idea as they will perform diffrently under different conditions
acf8181 0
well...uni's are f*ckin good tyres, and i've yet to be impressed by a pirelli so that may have something to do with it (esp in wet i'd imagine, as thats where uni's excel)you're always gonna get the rear going light under hard braking at speed...its basic physics...if the rear gets out of shape under braking, just ease of the pedal (thats the first line of defence, then apply slight steering correction as required)
acf8181 0
ok, for some reason we cant edit our posts!was gonna add that you could try rotating the tyres front to rear and vice versa to see if its any better.
