Jakeyb 23
when i picked my vr6 up it sat at 70 n wouldn't get warm untill left to stand still .. didnt over heat.. soon as it was driven it cooled down again n the heaters were colder than they should be ... ive changed the stat n crack pipe and bled it up aswell as it would allow me ... left it sat for 20 mins ticking over.. fans kicked in n out which indicated the thermostat was working and opening as i watched the coolant bottle and the level dropped shortly before the fans.. the water pump was returning water to the bottle and when the throttle is applied the water return speeds up .. tried to drive it home and after 5 mins it was over heating on the gauge so i pulled over and turned it off .. re bled it with water i had in the car and drove it back to the garage .. again over heating but not as severe as before .. the temp gauge is obviously working better than before .. the heaters are hotter as well but not GREAT by any means .... i felt all the pipes and all were HOT not warm ... even the matrix pipes were both HOT so i would presume this rules out teh matrix .. so im thinking headgasket as the gases are escaping and pressuring the coolant ... only thing is it never did it before and seems odd that it would of happens when the car has not had anything happen to for it to of occurred? any help appreciated VR6Pete
VR6Pete 1,455
Sounds like you need a testing kit to test for presence for exhaust gasses in your coolant. Club Chairman
Jakeyb 23
i wont do sniff test ill just pressurize the coolant system and im sure it will fill one or more of the pots up
Jakeyb 23
could it be a failed aux water pump as ive heard they run along side the main pump in cooling the engine when running n driving . mine was fine before but it doesn't over heat when sat and the fans kick in so it would make sense that the car isnt being cooled adequately enough as it doesn't ahoot all the way into the far side of the guage only too just before 100 degrees
abvsean 32
are all the pipes rock solid when engines running?mine was pressuring the cooling system, pushing all the water out the header tank, had to do headgasket,it was shot to bits though Edited February 8, 2014 by abvsean daveyboy
daveyboy 897
I've had to do the same as Sean. I'd do a sniff test. My head gasket was shot to bits too Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk
Lukey. 381
The aux pump is for after run
Jakeyb 23
the Aux pump runs on ignition mate to circulate water faster and get car up to running temp quicker, its used on after run to prevent heat soak on the matrix and stop damage after a heavy run . I fixed the problem today it was a BRAND new stat that had failed out of the box... bought a Genuine on for £26 and hey presto it works perfectly and sits just before 90 on the gauge and then first stage fans kick in at 93-4 * ( checked on snap on diagnostics) ... amazing really how in acurate the gauge reads.. half way between the 90 -100 was actually at one point 85* ... madness
