abvsean 32
Allright folks I was fitting my flywheel earlier and my heart sank as i first put it on as some of the bolt holes didn't line up,span it round till they did but why are they like this?is there a tdc mark or something?any extra strength in offset holes? anyone else come across this or know why? cheers
Lukey. 381
I think it's to do with offset weighting, the pressure plate only goes on in one orientation too. My old pressure plate went on in any orientation and of course it was wrong, the whole car shook like a shitting dog, the replacement brand new flywheel and clutch only went on in one way and no wobble
abvsean 32
ah not got as far as fitting the clutch yet had to go pick the mrs up so the clutch will only go one way then? yeah i bet that was some vibration being out that much haha
Lukey. 381
Yes it's oriented too, don't think a peg or hole is off turn it round to the next one till it slips on no problem. Did you get new flywheel bolts? They're one time stretch bolts and have a specific torque sequence too.
abvsean 32
yeah got new flywheel bolts from vw.not risking those badboys breaking on me.ill have a look for the sequence fella cheers got new sachs clutch going in,im ok re using the clutch plate bolts though arent i.had a new face machined on the flywheel its all looking spangly, didnt want to lighten it like, hopefully be back in the car soon cant wait. Lukey. 381
The plate bolts should be replaced aswell according to the book but I reused them. They aren't expensive if you do.
abvsean 32
meh...theyll be right iv never had issues with them in the past not being replaced whats this sequence then i cant find anything with google for a pattern, ill prob just do opposites and torque them up
Lukey. 381
It's basically just opposing bolts so move in a pattern like 1,5,3,8,4,9,2,7 there's a torque sequence I'll have to dig out the book tomorrow to see what that is.
abvsean 32
yeah done opposites now 12oclock-6oclock etc and torqued to 44ft/lbs-60NM + 1/4 turn.

abvsean 32
Yeah clutch bolts are ok to reuse according to vw mechanice as long as they are lock tighted and torqued i think to 20nm,
