1995 MK3 vr6? E and S mode?

Recommended Posts

The automatic transmission in the vr6 uses what vw call a 'fuzzy' transmission-it learns the drivers habits and tries to anticipate what your going to do next via a transmission control module and some other sensors. Think it is known as an 01M transmission.

I believe the sport mode will hold onto a gear longer and shift quicker than when if it was in economy mode. This is what a can tell from a quick browse through google. For more info look for a website called Ross tech, they have a lot of info on the electronic systems in our generation of golf.

Welcome to the forum and I hope it's of some help!

EDIT from the Ross tech wiki site;

Before the 01M transmission, VW produced the 096 four-speed for Mk3 Golf/Jetta cars from 1992-1994. These cars will have a SPORT/ECONOMY switch near the shifter or on the dashboard to alter the shift points. Some of the 096 parts were held over for the 01M transmission, such as oil filter, oil pan, filler tube, gaskets, speedometer gears, skid plate, etc. These transmissions have different torque converters and many other internal parts that are not interchangeable.
