De-arching a VR6

i'm thinking of doing this but want to keep my vr6 rubbing strips, can you get the same thickness bit for the end or do you have to use the cl strips

i'm pretty sure the cl ones are the same thickness. 'icy' has done this recently (e38 and here) and he's kept the gti side strips for now and used cl and bits

yeah i saw his last saturday when i was dropping off some alloys and the 'cl' end bits were thinner, don't want to go the full colour coded way

the only way i can think of doing it is getting some later spec ones and painting them with a black texturised paint like there have been doing on vortex

IIRC the lower (i.e. non arch trim) early models have the same strips as late (i.e. highline style)models, but they just ain't painted.

do the later ones fit inside the indent in the doors?

the early ones come over on the bottom

i took the arches off earlier and have found rust under aech one, also are these meant to be glued/sealed on cos mine were just rivited on with no glue/sealent at all

its just the rivets.....spose ita gamble with the rust, weather you'll find rust under there or not. but given te apalling weakness the mk3 has to rust i spose its gonna happen on the early cars like ours. want to take mine off and see whats under there but i'll ned to get someone to rivet them back on after as i cant afford the bodyshop at the mo.

any chance of pics of the state of the arches?
