Volkswagen Working On Vr6 Engine Successor

Recommended Posts

Was just messing about on web and found this. Dated 9/05/2013

Volkswagen is allegedly working on a successor for the highly-acclaimed VR6 engine

Work on the all-new narrow-angle V6 direct-injection gasoline engine is being supervised by Fritz Eichler who is Volkswagens  new head of engine development. Before making the switch to VW, Eichler worked at AMG where he was in charge of the latest power units. While previous VR6 engines were naturally aspirated, the new one will adopt forced induction and could turn out to be a twin-turbo arrangement.

Volkswagen previewed this engine back in May at the Wörthersee meeting where they showed the design vision GTI concept powered by a twin-turbo V6 3.0-liter engine featuring a narrow angle design The motor is capable of outputting 503 HP (370 kW) and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm.

However, the production engine is expected to be less heavily tuned and with a smaller liter output, with power estimated between 340 HP (250 kW) and 450 HP (331 kW).
