Charged vr6 0
Hi there guys, got a problem and thought i get it looked at asap. When i press the clutch down i hear a click and can also feel it.Also when putting the car into different gears stationary or moving its smooth but, but not smooth enough, slight roughness. Backfires sometimes when i slowdown and put it into 1st, it like the teeth knock and then lock into place? any ideas?? :| Had a problem like that (clicking and gear shift) on my last car (fait punto) and had to replace the clutch and then they said maybe even the gearbox help guys ! thanks !! badboyV6 4
I had a very similar problem in my old VR- (although it was only clicking slightly and the it was feeling a little notchy) they are hydraulic so it could be the hyrdaulic slave cylinder.A VW garage at the time told me that they would probably replace the clutch and slave cylinder.clutch- because of slight notchy feeling selecting gearsslave cylinder - because of the clicking noise..... [/quote']ok...not sure about the click...never heard one do that before, but know others on here have had similar.the 02a box (as fitted to vr's) isn't ever a particularly nice feeling gearbox tbh...all are a bit notchy/unsmooth.do you mean backfiring, or do you mean burbling on decelaration...vr's do burble.the notching you feel is likely to be worn syncros, usually its 2nd thats most effected. no way to fix it, but if you heel and toe downshift and try not to rush the upshift it won't get any worse. you'd have to rebuild the 'box to sort it, and if you were rough with it again, you could damage it within a month.hope that explains some stuff, andrew. badboyV6 4
My old VR had a slight notchiness (if there is such a word lol) and it had 76k on the clock- surely not worn syncro's at that mileage??? I was told it could be a worn thrust bearing, not releasing the clutch fully. Also i thought that if the syncro's were worn that you would crunch the gear full stop- like the usual wear in second.... Might be wrong though......
acf8181 0
oh, yeah, syncros can be damaged at low mileage...it all depends on the driver really.
stu h 0
my gearchnage gas deteriorated recently -changing down into 2nd is appalling sometimes and it won't go into 1st from neutral on occasion (you can either force it or put it in another gear then into first)will have to ask my mechanic if the linkage can be adjusted
acf8181 0
can i suggest everyone learns how to heel and toe downshifts.....i have a vid showing how if yuo want em to e-mail it to you....the gains are huge on these cr*p 02a 'boxes!and also, don't rush your upchanges....if you 'beat' the syncros you're going to fast. you won't really loose any accelaration, though your mind will tell you the you do! badboyV6 4
I do it when i drive fast -its defintely a much smother way of driving..... I find it a pain all the time though- but still always match the revs to the perfect engine speed when downchanging...And thats a good point about rushing the sychro's- i never do that - and always let the box find the gear in its own time. :-)And then theres left foot braking ;-) bet you wont be doing that tooo much in your (soon to be acquired) mr2 ;-)
acf8181 0
why not? left foot braking helps balanace the car at speeds....irrelevent which wheels are driven.but..it is a bigger advantage on fwd i grant that.
badboyV6 4
from what i here they are a a bit light on the back end and they like to snap out- spose its to be expected of a mid engined motor (although driven withdedication they are extremely quick)

Its got 79k on the clock and stating by VW to come in for its next serice at i think 84k...Also could you send me those movies to shazz_uk@hotmail.com thank you, that would be a great help. So would you advice me to get it checked out now or later on? Its got 79k on the clock and stating by VW to come in for its next serice at i think 84k...well, most likely nothing can be done apart form rebuild it....but it ain't likes its gonna let go, so if you can put up with it then leave it. buts that just my opinion.
