There are companies that you can pay to transport it for you, no idea how much that would cost though. Instead of a tow truck you could get the car on a trailer and tow it with a car fitted with a towbar (if you've access to one).

What nic is the car in? And do you plan on doing lots of work on it before putting on the road? If it's in good nic I'd buy insurance and book an mot near where the cars located. I'm 99% sure it's legal to drive a car that's insured a short distance to an mot centre. Then from there I'd tax it and drive home. I'd imagine that would be cheapest option.

Btw you have to do the mot before tax cos you need an mot certificate in order to purchase a tax disc. I've took my car off the road before (declared SORN) and garaged it. You can't buy a tax disc (after car being SORN) without an insurance certificate, mot certificate and registration document.

If it doesn't have the full compliment of tax' date=' mot and insurance I thought you had to lift the front wheels off the floor when towed.

Not heard that one before but doesn't surprise me. Your technically driving if all wheels are in contact with the ground, your just getting your power from another vehicle!
