acf8181 0
yep....i got it done by a guy who goes under the username of 'hotgolf' on cgti forum....he did a mates 020 as well.you'd have to ask him how much it;ll be, and if he can as i know he's very booked up.whats actually gone on yours?theres are a few options...as a base you can just have yours recon'dnext step up is to replace the diff pins for bolts (th e pins failing is the common failure on 02a's)next step up is to do the above plus putting in a lower final drive gear...this will in prove accelaration but means you'll run out of revs at about 140mph (as opposed to 160mph as standard - which the engine will not push you to, its not powerful enough!)next step above that is to add a quaife or peloquin ATB diff. this will give you a huge increase in tracion and make the car conrer much qucker (but will drop you into a wall if you lift mid corner)top of the range would be a 6 speed conversion...this will cost mega bucks and parts are hard to come by i believe. Eat this 2
2nd hand box???
acf8181 0
is a risk buying second hand box...i bought one, plugged it in and it was struggling to find gears. as it turns out the damage was very minor. but as a PITA as it had to come out again.i do have a spare box in my garage, however it needs a rebuild (whining diff, and worn 2nd gear syncro).you can use boxes off 5 speed mkIV v5's apparantely as well...they're a better box from what i hear (o2j)
Eat this 2
heres an o2j with 10k miles on it apparantly http://www.clubgti.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=65253&PN=
acf8181 0
i don't thing thats right, it appears to suggest its from a 1.8t...you need the one off the V5 as bell housing will be different. i do wonder if you coudl bolt your existing 02a bell housing to a 1.8t 02j though.not sure on the ratios on the 1.8t box as well....from my understanding the v5 box is equivelant to the o.e. vr6 box with a lower final drive.as i said, this is only what i've 'heard', so best to do some serious research before paying out any cash.
