288 mm discs reviews and comments needed

Recommended Posts

Hi, i need help choosing some new discs, I am not going to do the 312 upgrade as i like my 15" BBS.

is it worth the X drilled and grooved/grooved only or are standard discs with good pads enough? also is it worth doing the braided hoses as well? (if i do this i will change the rear discs and bearings too)

my baby is lightly modded and i am NOT going to FI (famous last words ;-)

cheers in advance

I've got braided hoses, standard 288 discs, Greenstuff pads (Front) Standard Pads (Rear) and some 5.1 brake fluid & all that works really well on my lightly modded VR (filter, decat, exhaust). The Greenstuff's are certainly an improvement over the standard front pads.

Hope that helps :-)

depends what you plan on doing with the car mate. if you just driving around normal roads then standard discs and some nice pads will do, no need for bigger breaks, braided hoses etc as they will really only come into their element when thrashing around a track.i'm running standard discs and red stufff pads and it stops great.

Standard car use standard discs and better pads. Hoses will make a difference as well.

As for what pads on a modified car its all down to the individual really. Ive had EBC Yellows on my old VR6 and also on the R32 I have now, and i swear by them as they have never let me down at all. Yes I do give them hell when driving quickly and have never faded

Thanks every one, you just saved me some money! next thing, regarding the hoses goodridge and black diamond both do sets, i beleive the GR set is SVW0604-6P (should be late model with Banjo ends) but the BD do DHK 091 (91-97) VR6 which i think are not banjo ends!

Help! can anyone shed light? i think i may need the DHK090 (GTI with Banjo http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/cheap/150331/volkswagen/black-diamond-braided-brake-hoses/dhk090.html)

cheers again

if you have 288mm brakes already you need the banjo fronts and the screw on rears and centres

like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Golf-MK3-VR6-Goodridge-Braided-Brake-Hose-Lines-G11-SVW0604-6P-6-lines-VW-/120862094655?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c23f1353f

HEL also do them in all the colours of the rainbow should you so desire, i have HEL but got a good price, if i was doing it now id go for goodridge, they seem to be the cheapest and have the reputation
