rbertnitro 0
Hi just needing some advice as im doing my front shocks at the moment.I havent even got the old ones out as the allen bolt part of the main shaft at the top mount has totally corroded,i tried the right size allen key and now both have completely disintegrated with the slightest turn on it.i was thinking of just hacksawing right thru the shaft bellow the nut but cant as the top metal capgoes down into the opening and theres nowhere to bet a blade in.Any help or tricks for getting the nut of when the allen key bit has rounded would be greatly appreciatedcheers
lee123d 0
use a compressor with an airgun with a 21mm socket and it will wind straight off
rbertnitro 0
thanx lee not really got access to a decent compressor and airgun.you think those cheap electric impact guns you get that plug into the fag lighter would spin it off?
Gazbarber1982 3
No, not quick enough. Ask a garage to give them a quick blast off for you
lee123d 0
get a powered wizzy gun if you can fully charge it that will blast it off if you know someone whos got one fag lighter one wont do it

rbertnitro 0
cherrs i will.just finished the rears the other day and had a bit of a time getting them out ended up having to put spring compressors on with it in situ under the arch winding the spring right in then compressing the shaft right in to get the clearance to get it under the arch, prob didnt help that i just had one side up at a time and the whole beam couldnt swing down and the fuel tank part on the right side one made less room aswell.all perfect now tho
lee123d 0
thats good then i hated doing the backs on mine i ended up jumpin on the rear hub and pushing down as hard as i could then pull the whole shock out much quicker lol

rbertnitro 0
update.. So i managed to get the tops lossened off ok but had some probs with the bottom bolts being super tight, anyway the new shocks, mounts and bearings are all in on all 4 corners i also took the time to do the outer arb bush/links when i was there.car is feeling alot better and stable now but in still getting wierd noises :-( Kind of sounds like an odd creaking like when you bounce on a knackerd chair or mattress but louder, im also getting this mad noise that sounds briefly like a grinder going but ive only ever heard this over 2particular streches of road so it must be the camber of the road or something causing it,it doesnt increse with speed and only last a min at most when im driving over these areas.mostly its just the creaking and an odd muffled knocking sound (like a loose exhaust hanger but i know its not that) that comes and goes but its not just over bump it does it ive noticed it on flat motorway too. Any ideas where to go next? engine mounts? arb inners? some input would be great cheers
