kobi 0
I know this is a vr site, but has anyone had any experience of these cars?I've come across a 5dr(!) 1998, 1 Owner vehicle at a very reasonable price. The car is mint.I've not driven it yet, never been in one either.Anyone know anything about them?I know they are 150bhp, 0-60 7.9secs etc. But engine reliability etc etc?Cheers
binliner 0
as a replacement for the VR or in addition?
kobi 0
erm... at the moment definately an addition. I'm looking at an 8v (previously owned) or 16v MK3 as a everyday motor. Also I'm on the lookout for another VR. Nothing wrong with mine except its a 5 door and in the wrong colour... oh and its not a highline!Performance wise i dont think the 16v is much different to the VR6. Although it will obviously lack the grunt of the sixpot.I'm just wondering about drivability of them, whether you have to race the knackers of the thing to get it moving or not. The 8V is a nice tool round town but too slow for the open road.
badboyV6 4
Ive had 2. 1 an N and 1 a P plate. Generally good but make sure the cambelts have been changed by a reputable dealer or specialist. The monkey who changed mine didnt do the bottom pulley up tight enough and the keyway on the crank was damaged. Went for about a month gradually losing power - due to the pulley slipping. This meant new crank- and lots of money. Quite nice to drive and feel a lot more torquey than the mk2 16 valve. Also feel a lot more nimble compared to a standard VR6. The P plate i owned had about 115k on it and it ran well :-)
badboyV6 4
A while ago a m8 who owned a mk3 16V and the other who owned a VR6 decided to race through country lane like looneys- and there was feck all in it.... however when you got a long stretch of road the VR would pull away (and the guy in the valver was caning it big time- they still like to rev like the mk 2 valver!) Should be going to pick it up on Thursday - if that falls thru then will re direct to the 16v.[ Edited Tue Mar 22 2005, 05:13PM ]

badboyV6 4
Yep - id have gone for the 16V personally even though the CC's got leather.... i find the CC's colour scheme inside a bit chav like in bright colours. Did they do a black colour concept? Ive seen jazz blue, red, bright green and yellow.....
MSV83 0
before i got the vr i use to have a 2.0 16v gti...must admit not bad to drive alittle slugish of the line but once over 4000rpm they go...but not as quick as the vr not bad on fuel but does that really matter...
