rsweeney 40 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Share Posted January 14, 2012 a rubbing noise is coming from the serpentine belt side of my 24v vr6 .i have changed the belt for an expensive conti-tech belt but still making the noise.what could this be ? next im trying a pulley but not happy that its still making this rubbing noise as if its catching.the belt is on straight Link to post Share on other sites

rsweeney 40 Posted January 15, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 15, 2012 checked all the pulleys for play and they are all fine , maybe the smallest amount in the water pump but hardly anything. its a new water pump aswell from someone on here . could it be this or the belt tensioner pulley? really dont know now so stuck !noise goes away when removing the belti couldnt see any rubbing and the tension on the belt is fine . here is the noise : Link to post Share on other sites
cabrioman 6 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Share Posted January 15, 2012 silly question but has it got power steering fluid in it ???? try sticking a long screw drive against your ear then on the tensioner, alternator, pas pump when its running see if you can hear the more on one of them ..... dont put in on the moving bit put it against the casing Link to post Share on other sites
