mk3 24v + 02M front engine mount

Recommended Posts

Just curious as I can't seem to find any threads with anyone who has specifically done this. Most people seem to have opted for an 02A box with the conversion or those who are running 02M's are still running 12v's.

I have my own ideas how to adapt it but was just interested to see how anyone else has done it. I plan to stay it to the bell housing top and bottom retaining the original hole on the bottom right for rhs of the mount :)

Said mount..

Original as in mk3 mounting points are not there, either on the box or the block. The only place it lines up the same is where you can see the bolt in the pic. I'm going to have to weld some supports top and bottom of the mount and bolt those to bolts on the bellhousing.

Can get round the oil cooler issue by means of an early 12v fixing bolt in the centre of the cooler, not that that matters anyhow as I will be fitting a UM adapter tube for an external oil cooler.

Was having a read through your thread the other night, real nice work. Some fabrication skills on ya :)

Had a spare couple of hours this afternoon so...

Fabbed of a bracket to weld to the top of the front mount. This consisted of a welding a bush to some flat plate, I decided I havent much faith in my welding skills and ditched this idea in favour of a complete steel bracket with a 12mm hole drilled into it to take the bell housing bolt..

1st bracket..

Then the makings of the second one, I have to say I had no intention of making it look like a penis lol...

Tacked into place..

Welded up..

Thought it could do with strengthening to avoid any potential lateral movement so welded in a couple of gussets to compensate...

Because the mount is still only held by two bolts, i'm going to weld a strap to te left hand side of the mount and make a bracket to brace it to a bolt on the lower half of the bell housing. This way it will be braced top and bottom abd account for forward and rearward movement.

A lot of what I have said is maybe a bit obvious and a load of uneccessary pics but thought it might be useful for some people in the future as I couldn't find any references for doing this.

Actually' date=' I can't do it like that, the mk3 mount on the crossmember s too big. Have to stick with the bush idea

[/quote']

Why not use a solid front mount, that tapers from the modified engine bracket to the cross member, which will give you masses of room?
