VRmonster 1
id go for the tacho input wire being green with black. and it comes from the ecu under the rain tray to the cluster in the dash and reads from the crank sensor i think which i would have to check up on to find the colour and location. id probably say you have a dodgy cluster mate. acf8181 0
i had a speedo prob a whole back, in that it stopped working...it turned out to be a bent terminal in the big wiring harness by the coilpack. worth a look.

VRmonster 1
it could do as the rev counter gets its signal from the crank, which has a sensor right near to that big round connector, ive had an electrical fault there before which stopped the car from starting (can you stop a start?) just a pin came out from the connector the last time it was removed for cleaning. (no i dont always clean it,) so its either the sensor, the wires between, the connector or your clocks. just have a quick glance around these areas and you may find a silly little loose connection.
