Guest darcey
Hi I'm getting a golf VR6 tomorrow - its an L plate and has done 150K miles - on the test drive the car seemed to drive extremely well - my friend said that VW's go forever - should I worry about the high mileage ???Also does the CAM chain ever need to be changed - I know they can get loose so can you just tighten them back up ??Thanks very much for your help an excited future VR6 driver !! Geastb 0
The cam chain should last the life of the engine its the tensioners that need replacing as they wear out around the 100k mark - check to see if yours have been done - i suspect at 150k they should have been! My old engine had done 155k and the only problem i had with it was excessive oil usage/burning - as long as the engine sounds ok and you have no nasty knocks or blue smoke you should be fine! I would advise using the VW synta silver oil when doing oil changes! I didn't on my old engine and i'm sure this contributed to the excessive engine wear!Do a search on the forum about chains and tensioners and you'll get all the info you need!
