Hi all

Just wondering if there are any ICE guru's out there that can help me out. Went to football in the VR tonight, first time it has been used in a few days and for some reason my sub has stopped working. I have checked the amp and there is power going to it and it turns on with the stereo, checked the RCA leads on the amp and back of the headunit and all seem fine. Does this mean the amp is likely to be knackered? Seems strange as it has gone from working to using the car again and it not working.

Can anyone suggest what might have happened or something to check? I dont have another amp to test the cables, and ideally dont want to buy new RCA's etc if they are not at fault.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

David

Ah right i see. I was under the impression that if the remote wire wasnt connected the amp wouldnt power up at all, i thought thats what powered the amp when the stereo came on and the live was just a perm live? :-s

On that note, can i use any piece of wire to act as a remote wire to test it?

yup prety much any cable mate, its only a 12v supply with negligable current. just make sure the cable is stranded, other then that it will do. speaker wire is a good example. oh check the rem cable at the headunit first, it can come loose.. cheers

Hi all.

I went and took another look tonight. Seems it was the remote lead after all as i cut the join behind the stereo and re-wired it and hey presto, it worked.

Really appreciate your help as i figured if it powered then it couldnt have been the remote wire so i would have been hunting all night for the problem.

Hi again.

Just as i solved this problem it seems to have broken again. Went out earlier and all was ok, got back into the car and the sub stopped working again, checked the amp and it doesnt appear to be powering up, well the light isnt illuminated anyway. I have checked the fuse on the amp and in line fuse and they all seem to be ok. Anything else that it could be that is stopping it powering?

Kinda getting on my tits now!

Thanks

David

Earthing point really makes a difference i thought same with mine but turned out earth off amp was bad and also my power cap ...

Where is yours now earthed? Since it has stopped working i tried re-locating the earth to the seat belt bolt for the rear seat but still not luck.
