biff 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Report Share Posted February 14, 2005 I have recently purchased a vr6 and its been fine 4 a few days then 2day the radiator fans just wont work!! any ideas on how I can find out why and what do u reccommend I do. acf8181 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Report Share Posted February 14, 2005 i haven't looked into this area on the vr6, but presuming its the same set up as a gti its most likely to be the automatic switch thats in the rad...or even could be that its not plugged in.do not let the car get hot enough for the light to come on or you're risking damaging your head gasket, or even the head itself...whcih will cost mega bucks. andy 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Report Share Posted February 14, 2005 Yeah, second what acf said , don't let the car get that hot. If you know the fans aren't working, don't use it. The VR6 engine needs a great deal of cooling, its a big lump in a small space. I blew a head gasket myself from inadequate cooling, ie no fans. There are various tests you can do to find out if it's the fans or the sensors. Have a search on here mate, it involves putting in a wire jumper to con the fans into thinking they should be on. If the fans come on then you have a sensor issue, if the fans don't come on then you know they are suspect. Don't risk it or you will wreck it....guaranteed :-( Link to post Share on other sites
