Timah89 1
hi,having an ongoing nightmare with this now.the current ECU is dead, got a split in it so trying to get hold of another one at the moment. Turns out the one i want is rare. part no. 3AO 907 379 A. Spoken to our good scrap yard around here and they refuse to sell one without the ABS pump with it, infact they wont even search for the part number, they will only search for the pump part number advising that just because the ECU part number may be the same as mine it wont work with my pump, surely that is an utter load of trash talk, i am replacing a part for another part with the exact same number which would have been designed to work with the pump that i have. sick of this now!! legvw 0
I wouldn't have thought the abs system is that 'regulated' by matching ecu's and pumps. Surely, like you said, if you replace the ecu with a matching one, then it should all work ok.They could be getting mixed up with an engine ecu? And having to match the later one's with clocks etc.I've got an ecu at home, i'l check parts numbers later if you want?
FishWick 21
Is this for the later unit where the ABS pump and ECU are one unit? Or the earlier system with seperate pump / ECU and pedal sensor? If the former, can the ECU be split from the pump?
Timah89 1
yeah my thoughts exactly, the bloke was having none of it and got a bit arsy on the phoen when i told him that was rubbish. surerly a part number is a part number and is set to be compatible with the relevant parts that it was built to work with, in my case the pump already on the car. Frustrationor what! Yeah if you could check that would be be great, i beleieve that the part number has changed now to C at the end rather than A, either works though. yeah its the later unit where the pump and ecu are as 1 so to speak, you just unscrew the ecu from the bottom of the pump and it is in a sealed unit. if it continues to be a pain to reslove i'm going to remove the unit and get a brake bias. legvw 0
Ah, i've got an early type, where the ecu lived under the back seats. Sorry bout that... hope you resolve it! (I'd remove the abs anyway because its pants, i'm not a big fan of it tbh.)

Timah89 1
right then turns out i cant get hold of another ECU at all, seems rare as anything the one that i want. How easy/hard is it to remove the ABS altogether and put in a brake bias, do i need to inform DVLA or anything like that so that is is registered as having no ABS??
craggsy 91
I'm sure you need to let insurance know as it's a modification from standard
Timah89 1
yeah thought that may be the case! Managed to find a EBS pump and ECU on the bay for £35 with a 4 month guarantee, so gone for that with high hopes of it solving this problem. Turns out if you search for the pump part number it brings up alot more available
Timah89 1
got the pump and ecu today and just fitted, guess what, the abs light remains on!!!!!
