russj249 2
I have a feeling there's going to be lots of turbo questions coming up soon but i'm after a wastegate that will do the job, but won't cost a fortune. I don't want to fork out for a tial one but at the same time I want something reliable that isn't going to fail and overboost the engine.it'll be a 35mm wastegate with the standard 2 bolts fitting. I will need another 2 bolt flange to weld to some pipe to attach to the downpipe I've got to make. The only ones on eBay are like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/35MM-EXTERNAL-WASTEGATE-Blue-/330349760945?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cea6151b1Also need to know what psi spring I should get. I will be lowering the compression ratio to 8.5:1 so not sure what boost will be reasonable.
matty.vrt 120
if you want one that works buy TIAL if you want to take a chance try ebay but wont end up cheaper if your engine ends up running 40psi plus because it has failed.
russj249 2
this is the problem i've got you see. I can't really afford to spend £250 on a wastegate. Is there any slightly cheaper alternatives?
matty.vrt 120
gt3 turbo sell them for £200 so you have saved your self £50 but i would realy urge you to invest in a good quality wastegate.
legvw 0
You could use an audi s2 wastegate, its bigger but will be cheaper and as reliable as the branded 'gates.
russj249 2
cheers Paul.. after Matty's post about GT3 turbo I think I might get a Tial F38 just to be on the safe side.Only things I need to know now are what psi to run. or bar with Tial stuff.I know my manifold has a 35mm wastegate pipe coming off it, with the 2 bolt holes 71 or 72mm apart from centre of the bolts. The F38 is obviously 38mm, so will it fit, and are the bolts still 71 or 72mm apart?
legvw 0
Should be a universal bolt spacing so that the different pruducts fit.Run a low psi, say 5/6psi util you can get it tuned, then get it mapped to what ever you feel like, or whats driveable!
russj249 2
oh ok.. cheers Paul. I will either go for the 0.4 or 0.5 bar to start with then, and when i can have it tuned properly and start with the electrinics etc I was going to go straight for the 0.9bar because it's the highest they sell standard in the F38 lol
FishWick 21
Nice idea with the S2 wastegate. It is good, it is reliable but it's also huge! Cheap s/hand, not cheap new from Audi though :-)Agree with Matty, fit the best WG you can afford. At the moment, the best is Tial! What's the price difference between the F38 and MV-S? I'd get the latter personally. If you're spending a bunch of sovs on a wastegate, a few extra won't hurt on a better unit :-)Get the half bar spring. If you fit the 13 psi spring you can't ever have lower than that. It's nice to be able to have switchable boost levels for winter. What turbo are you running? You could just buy a Borg Warner 7670? It has a dump valve, wastegate, N75 boost control valve all built in. Imagine how neat the install will be with no dump valve or external wastegate?http://www.treadstoneperformance.com/product.phtml?p=1849&cat_key=578&prodname=Borg+Warner+7670+EFR+Turbocharger+375-600+HPPrice up a 35R, £500 in dump and waste valves etc and you can see clear savings.Oh let's not forget the small matter of the Borg Warner having a titanium turbin wheel, ceramic bearings, billet compressor and stainless back housing :-)I will be getting one myself :-)
legvw 0
That trubo's wicked! Nice find Kev
FishWick 21
I'm desperate trying to keep my credit card in my wallet! There's nothing wrong with my current turbo, but I'm drawn to that like a moth to light!
matty.vrt 120
looks like a larger version on the borg warner fitted to vauxhall's vxr range.

FishWick 21
looks like a larger version on the borg warner fitted to vauxhall's vxr range. It's a lot better than the OE spec. EFR has many materials and technology not used in Vauxhalls and VAGs
