spinksy 0
just been scanning youtube and it seems theres a cheaper alternative to an off the shelf supercharger kit (which the cheapest ive seen is £2000), some people have been fitting superchargers from cars like mini cooper S's etc.the Eaton M45 supercharger, ive read that people say these are too small but are they?(others are M90's etc)obviously they probly take abit of work to get fitted but when i can get hold of a good condition charger for £250 its WAY more within my budget and to be 100% honest i only want 240bhp ish.what you think? craggsy 91
M45 sits on a 1.6 mini. They are cheap but it's the "getting em to fit" that is expensive
Caddyslammed 16
Good luck mate
spinksy 0
lol the more i look at them the harder this conversion looksmounting the charger is do-able but i aint to sure how to run the throttle body, piping etc :-(
Caddyslammed 16
Its the belt run thats tricky imo, and also mounting an m90, its big, then the intercooler or chargecooler...
spinksy 0
ok, i reckon me and my mate would be able to come up with a way to run the belt, the intercooler wouldnt be a problem at all (id just chop the bmper up lol)how would you run the throttle bodie? Caddyslammed 16
looked at short runner http://cgi.ebay.de/VR6-Turbo-Ansaugbrucke-Krummer-Manifold-2-8-2-9L-CNC-/250708717053?pt=Autoteile_Zubeh%C3%B6r&hash=item3a5f676dfd , but others have used the original intake, as the intercooler helps the pipe runs
spinksy 0
right ok, you got any links to websites where people are doing this/have done this?

spinksy 0
right cheers, after every new thread i read i get either more put off or more wanting to do it!its obviously alot harder/complicated than i thought.hhmmm, maybe saving for a few more months to get a proper kit second hand would be better.i wouldnt really want to spend much more than £900 on a second hand kit...
Ben Seabrook 4
yeah it is a lot of work !! and considering you can get a good 2nd hand kit for £1.5K ish I am not sure it's worth it but each to their own mate and it would certainly be different
legvw 0
^^^ What ben says, if your good with metal fabrication and don't mind the time it'll take to fit a 'different' charger to a vr then why not, but if your after something you can bolt on in an afternoon then go for a vr vortex/rotrex kit. spinksy 0
Right, so I've drawn a little diagram of how I'm thinking the m90 would gois this right lolI would keep the throttle body, fpr etc how it is, maybe add a adjustable fuel regulater lateralso probly add an intercooler between the charger & throttle bodyi could get the custom brackets made up ok as i got a few mates that are good at welding so thats ok. the hardest part would be mounting the unit to the block (im thinking if i did this properly i may get an old vr6 engine to practice mounting the charger on) also from what ive read an been told on here the belt can be a pig to not slip?also as a last thing - i really dont want to sound like a broken record here but would an m45 charger defintley not be any good at all? its just i can get hold of one real cheap, ive also noticed someone on youtube has done this with an m45. spinksy 0
after chatting to my mate at the gym tonight (he can weld and has welder etc and is the guy im getting the vr6 from) ive deceided im definatley going to do this.we both confident we can make up the custom brackets etc and agreed the only hard part to start with will be getting a good run for the super charger belt, hes confident though that with a custom belt and removing the air con we'll be able to do it!wont be for a few weeks yet but when ive bought the charger the work will start straight away!will do a build thread when :-)
Caddyslammed 16
When i looked at the run, i could see the alternator slipping at least, even if the charger wouldnt but if you are confident, go toothed belt ?
